General programmers:
- Listary - for finding any file or folder on your system almost instantly [free]
- Visual Assist - for various useful code searching/editing features in VS
- clink - adds some nice to have features to shell (cmd)
- Manic Time - time tracking software
Graphics-specific:
- RenderDoc - for debugging anything graphical
- Nvidia Nsight - for debugging anything graphical when RenderDoc isn’t working
- Visual Studio Graphics Debugging - for debugging anything graphical when Nsight isn’t working either
Resources
- Sascha Willems’ Vulkan - for example Vulkan code
- Handmade Hero - recorded live-streams of in-depth explanations of every aspect that goes into making a full game from scratch
- Game Engine Architecture - book (more aptly, a tome) describing many details of creating a game engine
- The ryg blog - insanely detailed explanations of various CS topics
- Graphics Programming Weekly- weekly blog posts summarizing the past week’s news in graphics
